Experiences/Into the Perijá

Yukpa territory · Serranía del Perijá, Colombia · 6–13 June 2027

Into Yukpa territory.

Mountain. Craft. Memory. Respect.

Photo: Soy de Aquí

Eight days in the Serranía del Perijá with a Yukpa community that has never opened its doors to outsiders. Led by Edwin De Angel of Soy de Aquí and the community.

The last stretch is by donkey.

The Yukpa have held these mountains through displacement and hard years. You go in as guests, on their terms, with someone they already trust.

No foreign visitor has stayed here before you. Steep tracks, hammocks, basic food, no signal. This is hardcore, and it is a privilege.

Who it's built for.

01

Families with teens.

Parents and teens 14+ who can handle the climb, the heat and the donkey.

02

Photographers + creators.

Travel with Edwin's eye. Consent comes before every frame.

03

Small groups.

Friends, schools and teams who want the real thing.

Not for everyone. That's the point.

If you want portraits on demand, staged dress or a comfortable lodge, this isn't your journey. Nothing is photographed without a yes.

Yukpa territory · Soy de Aquí

Led by Edwin. Backed by us.

Edwin has spent years earning the Yukpa community's trust with his camera and his time. He leads this journey with the community, and they decide what is shared and what stays private.

We're there too, as the system behind them. We build the experience with the community, find the pathways and partners that help it grow, and handle preparation, logistics and safety so the opportunity holds.

Your journey has a job to do.

This departure buys: a water system, so families stop carrying water up the mountain.

The community decided what it pays for. Your place makes it happen, and your group sees it arrive.

01

A water system.

Piped water for the community, so families no longer walk down the mountain to fetch it.

02

Built by them.

Local labour paid to build it, and trained to maintain it.

03

Craft at their price.

Basketry bought at the makers' price, not the visitor's.

£700 of every place goes into this fund, so every group that travels moves it closer. Final list confirmed with the community.

How the days run.

Led on the ground by Edwin. The route can shift with weather, season and what the community needs that week.

01

Day 1. Valledupar.

Arrive. Edwin briefs the group on the territory and how to behave in it.

02

Days 2–3. Up the Perijá.

4x4, then on foot and by donkey into the mountains. The community receives you.

03

Days 4–6. Live.

Basketry, food, the land and the stories the elders choose to share.

04

Day 7. Water.

Work alongside the community on the water system your group funded.

05

Day 8. Down.

Back down the mountain to Valledupar.

See it for yourself.

We meet you before you meet them.

Only 8 places. This journey isn't open for direct booking. Every family and group has a call with us first. These are homes, not products, and the wrong group can do real damage.

Questions people actually ask.

Can I take photos?

Only with consent, every time. Edwin will show you how the community wants to be photographed, and when to put the camera away.

How basic is it?

Very. Hammocks, simple food, limited water, no power or signal. The last stretch is by donkey. That's part of the point.

Why is it more expensive?

Because this community has never had outside support, and access like this has never been offered. The premium pays for the water system, fair pay for every host and getting a group up the mountain safely.

How every journey works: who leads, where the money goes, flights and groups.
