They did not wait for somebody else to build it.
Funamos was founded in Ovejas in November 2017, when families turned a rubbish dump into a football pitch with their own hands.
Ovejas sits in the Montes de María, a region that lived through decades of armed conflict. For a lot of kids here, the pull of the street, drugs and violence is real, sometimes on the doorstep, sometimes closer than that.
Funamos is the safe place in between. A pitch where they're expected every afternoon. Coaches who notice when someone's missing. Parents on the sideline. What gets trained here is discipline, respect, pride and a sense of who they can become.
And it's working. Kids who grew up on that pitch are now its coaches: a first job, and living proof to the little ones of where it can lead.
